¡Bienvenidos!
We offer quality tutoring and intervention for struggling readers using Orton-Gillingham and other methods based on the science of reading.
La Puerta Abierta was founded because we discovered while working in Southwest Detroit that many students craved explicit, multi-sensory phonics instruction, and bilingual support, in order to feel confident and begin to love learning.
So come join us. The door is open for you.

So, what’s the solution?
We offer online tutoring with hands on, explicit instruction, with bilingual support. We use researched-based methods to build foundational skills to ensure your child can read and write with confidence.
Hands-on
In each tutoring session you can expect to be filled with opportunities for movement and multi-sensory activities.
2. Bilingual
At La puerta abierta Spanish is our first language. Consultations are done in Spanish. All tutoring sessions are conducted in both Spanish and English.
3. Explicit instruction
We teach English systematically and explicitly so that a child is never left guessing, but confident in their ability to read and write in English despite many spelling pattern and rules.
Meet Ms. Pilar
I am a bilingual educator, passionate about literacy. Growing up Mexican in the suburbs of Detroit my parents sought to provide me with as many educational experiences as possible. Their efforts opened many doors of opportunity in my life, and I can’t wait help you do the same for your child.
